Fix Windows Update 0x80072F8F Error

The Windows Update  0x80072F8F error message can be experienced on any computer using Windows XP, Vista or Windows 7. This is a very annoying error which stops you from being able to use windows update. The error might be noticed as the 80072f8f error on vista.

What causes the Problem?
The problem is normally caused because you have adjusted the date or time on your computer and do so regularly. You will find that this causes problems with the security of your computer as it does not match the date on the windows update server.

Checking the Clock
Check the clock in vista by doing the following:
  1. Click on start and click Control Panel
  2. Click Clock, Language and region
  3. Double click Date and Time
  4. Look at the date and time to check if they are right. These can be changed if it is not right.
  5. Restart your computer to check if you can now use windows update.

Windows 2000, XP and Server 2003
If you are using Windows 2000, XP or Server 2003 then you should change the clock by double clicking the clock on the taskbar. Then you can check that the date and time settings are right, if not they can be adjusted and saved.

Viruses
If your computer has a virus then this could also cause the windows update error. You will need to use a virus scanner to ensure that your computer is free of all viruses. Update the virus scanner on a regular basis so that it can detect all of the threats.
